AF 660 Silicate façade paint

Category

For making decorative and protective façade paint coatings on any sound mineral substrates, both on new and renovated surfaces. Recommended for painting historical and ancient buildings and as a coating of mineral plasters in ALPOL EKO PLUS EPS board-based and ALPOL EKO PLUS WM mineral wool-based thermal insulating system. Product of great covering power, contains conditioners to protect from excessive water absorption. Forms a durable and flexible mat coat of great resistance to dirt and negative weather conditions (precipitation, sunlight, extreme temperatures and weathering.) It stands out for its high permeability to air, steam and CO2, as well as for its extraordinary resistance to microorganisms (fungi, algae, mould.) The porosity and substrate structure remain unchanged after paint use. This allows to preserve the natural look of the façade surface. Available colours according to ALPOL COLOR chart.

Product is a component of thermal insulation systems ALPOL EKO PLUS and ALPOL EKO PLUS WM.

Substrate type
Decorative mineral and silicate plasters in ALPOL EKO PLUS and ALPOL EKO PLUS WM thermal insulation systems, properly seasoned cement-lime plasters, concrete and other mineral substrates. Not suitable for substrates coated with dispersion paints, PVC and timber.

Substrate preparation
The substrate should be dry, clean, stable and sound, free from dust and greasy spots, without biological and chemical efflorescence (salty or corrosive.) Wash old substrates with water jet. Remove any loose material not bonded to the substrate. Level and patch irregularities. Before paint application, treat absorbing or dusty (strongly chalking) substrates with ALPOL AG 707 silicate-polymer primer for mineral substrates. In case of painting freshly made mineral substrates (e.g. cement-lime plasters) allow minimum 2-week seasoning time. Decorative plaster can be painted no sooner than after 3 days from application.

Instructions for use
The product is ready to use. When stirred carefully, apply the paint with a paint roller, paintbrush and by spraying (adjust the spraying parameters properly for machine application.) It is recommended to apply the paint in two coats. While applying the first coat, dilute the paint with small amount of water (max. 10%) if necessary. Apply the second coat only when the first one has dried out completely. Use spraying method in windless weather only. While making breaks, leave the tools in paint. In order to avoid different shades of the coloured paint, it is recommended to use the same batch numbers, or to mix the paint from several containers of different batch numbers. Stir the product frequently while working, and close the container tightly after use. After use, wash the tools with water.

Tools
Paintbrush, painting roller or spraying gun.

Working conditions
Work in ambient and substrate temperatures between +8°C and +25°C. Do not mix with other paints or chemicals. Avoid working in direct sunlight, during strong wind and high air humidity. One coat is dry to touch after around 3 hours from application. The coat is fully hardened after min 24 hours. Low temperature and high air humidity prolong the drying and curing time. Protect a freshly applied paint coat (until it is completely dry) from precipitation by using suitable covers, as improper conditions during application and drying may result in discolouration and tint distortion. Too high temperature while applying and drying the paint results in too rapid evaporation from water and prevents bonding with the mineral substrate. Consequently, in contact with water afterwards, migration of unbound potassium glass onto to the coat surface may occur, resulting in permanent stains or surface discolouration. Too low temperature makes water remain in the structure which slows down bonding, that impairs in turn coat durability and also leads to stains and discolouration.

Storage
Store in original, unopened packages in dry place – shelf life 12 months from production date. Protect from freezing during transport and storage.

Notes
The specifications and instructions for use are given for the temperature of (23±2)°C and relative air humidity of (50±5)%. The drying time may alter in different conditions. Note: the product is highly alkaline! Cover any glass, clinker, ceramic, metallic and natural stone surfaces before painting. Wear safety goggles. In case of contact with eyes, wash immediately with plenty of water and get medical attention. Protect also your skin. Use protective clothing and gloves. Keep away from children. Clean fresh stains with water. The manufacturer accepts no responsibility for damage caused by unskilful or inappropriate use of the product.

General recommendations
Work according to building practice, observing health & safety standards as well as regulations and the instructions of ALPOL EKO PLUS or ALPOL EKO PLUS WM thermal insulation systems, and the Building Research Institute (ITB) instructions No. 418/2007 and 447/2009.
